My Labrador currently eat food made by Wellness. Making meals for my dogs is not possible for my family . I try my best pick the best food possible from petco based on their labels. this world is so messed up that it's simply impossible to know which company is telling you the truth.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

About 40-45% of our dogs' calories come from Solid Gold kibble, which is a US-sourced kibble with fairly healthful ingredients. The rest comes from a combination of healthful leftovers (pasta with chicken, a lot of broccoli, and a little parmesan, for instance), food we buy just for them (we love Cloudstar's Buddy Biscuits, and raw broccoli stems, which we call "broccoli bones," yum!"). They're in incredible shape, and are the kind of dog we can free-feed, they don't binge. They tend to walk away from food when they're full.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

Okay, so try a similar poll for cats and cat food.

Then make sure you've got an entry that includes all of the cats being given prescription cat food that we can only buy at the vet's office. Sometimes Science Diet, sometimes Royal Canin (a Canadian or European brand which is more difficult to find), sometimes a special Purina food that they only sell on the online version of their store.

Basically, whatever they will actually choose to eat, and when they stop eating one brand/flavour (because most brands have only one or two flavours for each particular set of dietary requirements), then we have to switch to something else.

Oh, and don't forget the bi-daily fluid injections due to chronic kidney failure.

Get real. If you want to be cute and snarky and serve no real purpose, then be cute and snarky but don't bother wasting our time with a poll. If you're going to do a poll, then at least make a half-assed attempt to allow it to generate some useful information.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

We feed our mutts Canidae. Cheaper than most other "natural" brands, but still has great ingredients.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

we feed raw chicken necks from the butcher. costs just the same as dog food. you can get the chicken necks for super cheap and they're super good for the dogs.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

I have my dogs on a homemade organic vegan diet. I supplement Taurine and L-Carnitine to assure they're getting those in their diet. I usually make a large batch of food for them each week.

A typical batch consists of lentils, chick peas, or mung beans; quinoa, millet, or brown rice; 3 or 4 carrots, 1 bunch of spinach or other leafy greens, 1 kiwi, 1 apple or pear, 1 sweet potato, small hand-full of hemp seeds and flax seeds, 1/2 cup of peanuts, one Solgar taurine capsule (broken), 1 Solgar L-Carnitine tablet (ground), one or two sheet of nori, 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp of turmeric, tahini (good source of calcium), flax oil, olive oil, 1/2 tsp of spirulina, 1/2 tsp of matcha, 1 tsp of garlic oil or 2 cloves of garlic. Sometimes I throw in some blueberries (if they're on sale), peas, mangoes, and other things. I thin everything out with a mix of almond milk and water.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some things, but that's pretty much it.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

Yeah. I'm unimpressed. Nice for being cute and snarky, not good for eliciting information.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

No entry for 'normal' dog food either. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. Just what I figure is the best quality for a reasonable price.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

I didn't vote because our dog food is in between your two store bought options. Bought specifically for our dog but nothing special. Not the cheapest and not all natural etc etc. IAMS.

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

I don't have a dog, but I feed my cats raw, whole prey obtained from safe places (i.e. not roadkill - way to bias the poll yet again).

Re: Survey: What Do You Feed Your Dog?

Broccoli isn't that strange...I know some people give their dogs green beans mixed with their food to fill them up with less fat/calories, and the extra vitamins are good for them.

My cats both eat prescription food, one because of the medical problem she has had and the other to keep him from having the same issues. Our brand had one line of food that was affected by the tainted food recalls, but it was nothing on the scale that other brands had.
