Not to be negative, but this is a company that I paid a lot of money to transfer my domains to them and a year later I'm finding out that the transfers weren't done properly, that half of my domains are at the old place, that they really weren't paying attention when they did backups for me, and deleted core files. It should guarantee its uptime, which refers to the percentage of the time your website is accessible and can be seen in the Word Wide Web. The minimum uptime should be 99 %. In fact even 99 % seems to be too low. It really should be 99.5 % or higher. It helps to reach for an example your customers satisfaction, your needs and to enjoy financial freedom.

Re: Plethora of Options for Green Web Hosting

This post is really disappointing. You could have at least gone with a server room or maybe a LEED Certified server building.

"One group buys Renewable Energy Certificates; these insure that the power they use is generated in an ecofriendly manner"

Please do your research before posting an article.

Renewable Energy Certificates (also known as RECs) do not ensure that the power you use is generated in any particular way. RECs basically ensure that a certain (let's say "X") amount of energy produced in an "ecofriendly" manner is generated and put onto the grid. The power that you use may very well be coming from the coal plant in your county while the wind power generated by your purchasing of RECs enters the grid two states away.

Electrical grids need to maintain a certain amount of energy within them. Think of them as a collective pool. There's a lot of flow going on; a lot of energy entering and exiting the collective pool. However, there's really no way of knowing if your X amount of energy used is really coming from any particular place, though it's likely that a large percentage of it is coming from the power source closest to you. Your stating that it comes from a point source, like you did in your post in incorrect.

RECs are great. In no way am I bashing them. I just want it to be made clear what they are. ... Okay. Last clarifying example: Think of the energy you use as a slice of pie (amount X). You take that slice of pie. You consume that slice of pie. But there needs to be a whole pie (the energy grid) when mom comes home. You can replace that missing slice with the same old Wal-Mart brand HFCS & trans-fat laden pie OR you can replace it with some vegan locally-made pie from organic apples & flour from the farmer's market. There's still going to be a whole pie, but a fraction of it will be better for the environment in the end.

Re: Plethora of Options for Green Web Hosting

All of our servers are 130% wind powered!
