At this rate...well, it would have taken forever to recuperate our initial investment...

We then decided to donate the CFLs to others to help with the environment and decided to invest in all LED bulbs...

We waited for a "true" months bill to come and knocked it down by over $75.00!! Sure, we spent $1000, but at this rate, with the longevity of the product, they will pay for themselves in less than a year, or close...

Sure, we also remodeled and added a few extra can lights here and there, but we find that the rooms are just as, if not brighter than they ever were and enjoy the few extra bucks a month in our budget...

They may not give off the same quantity of light from ONE bulb, but if you have a room full of can lights (recessed lighting), they're perfect! Get a larger wattage for the task lights and increase your bath vanity light to a 3 bulb fixture, verses a 2 bulb fixture and you'll be just fine...AND you'll save a TON of cash!

Currently, the only issue we've found is that the kitchen needs more lighting, of course...so we left the "main" kitchen fluorescent and as for the second kitchen we added in the basement...we just added 2 additional recessed fixtures...and it's fine...

Good luck!
In the US, you can find awesome deals at Lowe's home improvement stores...as well as Menard's...(These are in the Mid West and the bulbs are quite affordable there...)
De * Des Moines, Iowa

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

There is NO case financially either. I found out later that CFL's work OK in "constant-on" but burn-out quickly in "on/off" applications.

I decided to try the LED's and they worked like a charm. Although I findit a pain to have to totally re-educate myself RE Kelvin temperatures and lumens, after I played around I got to my happy place -- long-lasting bulbs that reduce my electric usage and last a long time. I really love them, but also agree with many that the industry really does a lousy job of helping consumers with these products. One ought to be able to have an internet menu of "pick your watts comparison" then "pick your colour" (warm, cool, etc.), then "pick your shape".

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

Ever heard of the S/P factor? Lumens are measured with a light meter that measures the equivalent of daylight. The human eye is very intricate and separates the way we see in sunlight and in moonlight. Our Photopic and Scotopic vision. LED light focuses on those wave lengths that stimulate our vision. The P/S factor is roughly 2.2. In other words a 350 LED lumen output is roughly the equivalent of 770 lumen generated by an incandescent lamp. So a 350 lumen LED is the equivalent of a 60W incandescent lamp. Try it for yourself without a light meter.

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

LED light bulb is extremely energy efficient, can tolerate temperature variances and turbulence - all while lasting a long time - the quest began in an effort to create LED light bulb by clustering numerous LED's together. And it's worked, LED light bulb is now being produced that boast exceptional energy efficiency. A 7-watt LED light bulb, for example, can now replace a 75-watt incandescent bulb. As you can guess, the potential savings in energy costs and greenhouse gasses is enormous.

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

Ok ok ok. First of all. A 70W incadescant output around 1000 lumens. SO this new-fangled 9W LED lamp is in no way a replacement bulb. You would need the equivalent of 3 of these LED bulbs to get the same amount of light output. Its by-the-numbers stuff here people, It is most dissappointing that this story has come out, because it simply is not true. It causes so much trouble for the likes of me that work in the lighting industry and have to tell people each time that the LEDs are not direct equivalents. There is a case for them financially, but they are not on a lamp/bulb by lamp/bulb basis. At present time, you need a lot more LED bulbs to get the same lighting levels performance as an incandescent or halogen.

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

What u said about the CFL and mercury was really true.

About replacing the existing bulbs with LED, have u purchase the ready made bulbs(led collection bulb) or have purchase the individual LED bulbs and made the final product.?

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

LED light tends to be sharper and more direct...
It is a good post.

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

I just got my first LED bulb today. It is a 24 Led bulb. It seems pretty nice knowing it is only 1.5 watts. I am using it in my basement storage room just so I can see to put salt in my water softener. The only thing I don't like about it is the light projects like downward. It is hard to explain, I still like my CFL's but they take about a minute to light fully. I am not looking for a low wattage space heater to heat my home at night just the bedroom I use. I found this iheater at www.iheaternow.com Has any one used one these they say heats for pennies a day but its 1,500 watts? On the plus side, they do throw light more like an incandescent bulb, which is what most of our current receptacles are made for. Shopping around, you can find similar bulbs for less, or you can make your own if you're handy with a soldering iron (see instructables.com)

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

COSTCO sells LED bulbs made in China

Imported by Lights of America

They are model no. 2002LEDR30-65K

They replace 45 watt incadescent and use 3.5 watts

They last 10 times longer and sell for abour $12

each.

They have a 30,000 hour life.

They look like a PAR bulb and concentrate the light like a beam.

They are mercury free. Honestly, I've changed out my entire house with LED bulbs and tubes and am very happy. It's been about a year now, and only blew one out because I decided to try one with a dimmer switch.

Those of you promoting CFL's don't seem to be considering the long term effects, the big one such as mercury. On a one to one basis, not a big deal right? Imagine the mass amounts accumulating in our landfills.

Eric, you say "make a difference now" by buying CFL's from "COSCO". So let's just think like those in the past and focus on "the now", and create a problem for the future, not our problem right? (sarcasm)

The problem isn't that the technology isn't equivalent to CFL's and Incandescent. It's that many manufacturers are misrepresenting them. They make false claims, there are companies out there that will tell you what and how each bulb should be used. Like I said, my entire house has been retrofitted, I couldn't be happier.

With the growth of CFL's reaching nearly 270 million units in 2007, that figure is going to triple with the actions taken by the govt to outlaw incandescents by 2014. With the 2007 figure, you're looking at 2700 lbs of mercury going into the environment. So go ahead, stick with the old mentality, dwell in the past. Don't complain when your drinking water becomes polluted.

Some of you ask to see these in Brick and Mortar shops before you go out to buy them if they're so good. Well it's that dwell in the past mentality held by these brick and mortar shops and their purchasing reps that keep them from putting them up. They're afraid of change. They're afraid of progress.

Least not to forget, CFL's were in the same boat not too long ago, they faces the same challenges and pricing constraints...yet everyone loves them now.....

Re: 9W LED Bulb Replaces 70W Incandescent

I don't think this lamp would last more than 5-7 years...

The quality of the Leds used in this lamps is not the best and their luminance degrades easily with heat, voltage surges and peaks.
